3 unique and sustainable cake decorating ideas

I must confess something… To be honest, I really would like to write more posts about wedding sweets, but I am struggling to find good and sustainable cake decorating ideas. The thing is that cakes are usually decorated with sugar or real flowers, greenery, ribbons and/or various fruits and berries. And actually all of these decorative elements are fine. Edible decorations could be very sustainable option, while there is always a possibility to choose local and seasonal flowers and greenery if you are seeking sustainability. But I wouldn’t be myself if I didn’t look for more. So here I have 3 a bit more original and quite sustainable cake decorating ideas. And you can even do it yourself, I mean, to decorate your cake using these ideas! Hope you will like them!

1. Go for those nuts

Do you like nuts? Well then, this one is for you! First, choose what kind of nuts you love the most (with shell, because the shell is actually the most decorative thing here). Then sprinkle them on top your cake, add few pieces of dry plants and voila! After enjoying the cake, you can shell the nuts and eat them as well!

2. Stick in some seashells (literally)

Throwing sea or nautical themed wedding? Having a ceremony on the beach? Then this one is for you! And it is even hard to believe how easy it is to achieve this look. Basically you need to carefully wash some nice larger seashells, dry them and… stick in the cake. That’s all. Yes, really, that’s all. And after the Big day you can reuse the seashells to make another project. Awesome, isn’t it?

3. Add some natural crystals

Choose the ones which are meaningful to you or make a decision according the colour of the crystal (green aventurine, rose quartz, black tourmaline, golden tigers eye etc.). Put few pieces on the top of the cake and line up a few by the side. And that’s all actually. Taa – daaaam! Just let them shine. After the wedding just use the crystals to create some sparks inside your house (let them become a stylish interior detail).
