I was recently considering growing microgreens at home.
I’ve also been thinking about my blog and potential topics to write about for quite a while now. Do I feel ready to continue from where I left off a year and a half ago? No. But for some reason, this morning I felt an unexplained urge to log in to my website management platform and click the magical ‘Add new post’ button. ‘You should take action before you feel ready,’ they say…
I was pondering… How does a seed know when to sprout? Simply put, a seed will sprout when it’s at the right temperature and water reaches inside it. I, just like that seed, was dormant. Then, months later, I started taking in water and grew bigger and bigger until the coat split apart. It took many days of ‘sleep’ and a lot of ‘water’ to overcome adversity and see the first green shoot of life.
Oh, right… Microgreens & Weddings
Inside my crazy mind, the allegory of dormant and sprouting seeds and my interest in growing those at home for food organically evolved into the main topic of today’s article: creative ways to use microgreens in your event.
Well, first of all, you’ll need some microgreens, right? I won’t get into the technicalities of growing your microgreens here, but I can assure you it’s an extremely easy process. And relatively clean, as you don’t have to use any soil (which is handy when you want to use green plants for your table decor, by the way). You probably know how to germinate seeds anyway, and if you don’t, check out this short, sweet, and straight-to-the-point guide from the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS).
And here comes my part: please read below for 5 creative (and unexpected) ways to use microgreens in weddings.
Microgreens… as wedding decorations
Microgreens on a wedding table might not be for everyone because it’s quite a departure from traditional garden roses and fancy tropical arrangements. But there’s no denying the elegance of lush microgreens displayed in unique planters, perfectly complementing botanical, rustic, and eco-friendly/natural wedding themes.
… as food decor
Well, this one is a no-brainer, right? But it would work really well for maintaining a coherent event style if you choose to go for microgreens at your wedding.
… as natural confetti
This one is a bit unexpected to me, but, you know, why not? It’s another eco-friendly detail to maintain continuity in your wedding styling. Microgreens come in a variety of colours, from burgundy and purple to yellow and different shades of green. So why not use these fresh sprouts as an alternative to traditional confetti? Fingers crossed the guests don’t eat them before the happy couple arrives…
… as wedding favours
Why would your guests like to receive a bunch of microgreens as a thank you gift? Well, why would they prefer a succulent, for example? At least microgreens are edible and, moreover, healthy! So why not grow some with love and share this goodness with your loved ones?
… as decorative cake toppers
There is no secret that AI is a controversial topic. I myself have mixed feelings when it comes to AI-generated content, whether it be texts or visuals. In fact, when I was searching for images to illustrate my ideas for this article, I ticked off ‘Exclude generative AI’ in the filters. But just before I did that, upon running my first search, the image below caught my eye and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Such a cool-looking idea! I would certainly go for such a cake topper! Especially because the process of growing microgreens doesn’t require any soil, and coconut coir can actually serve as a base, holding the microgreens together for the time they will be serving as a cake topper. Just don’t forget to remove it before you cut the cake!
