Zefir is light and airy desert, also known as Russian marshmallow (because of its origin of course). They are very popular in Lithuania too, so I am quite familiar with these beauties. They just melt in your mouth! These sweets are named after Zephyr – Ancient Greek god of the light west wind. Yesss, you have guessed: it symbolizes their delicate airy consistency. Well, it is true, because they are similar to meringue but not crispy. Zefirs are soft and are made from fruit or berry puree with sugar, egg whites and gelling agent (like pectin or gelatine). Mmmmm… yummy…
Ok, enough about the tasty side! The thing is that you can easily use zefirs for decoration purpose. They are in very nice sculptural shape and usually comes of white (ohh, so classical) or light pink (so trendy at the moment in wedding industry according some reports) colour.
So… Few brass candle holders in different height, some wood sticks, white ceramic birds, low, though quite wild floral table centerpieces and… some zefirs in between them. What do you think? So simple, yet spectacular! Artistic, sculptural, classy and chick at the same time.
