I’m a huge fan of watercolour decorating ideas. And I always were. Watercolour painting is my favourite type of drawing techniques. So… I were always admiring those amazing watercolour cakes and the talent of their authors as well! And yesterday I decided to make one by myself (to tell the truth I have zero confectionery skills, ha ha, but this fact didn’t stopped me, neither it should stop You!). After looong search on the Internet I noticed that most watercolour cakes uses pink, peach or blue tones. So I decided to use different jet more dangerous road. As the view through the window here in Lithuania is sooo moody… veh… just look at it:
… I decided to use this years Pantone’s colour as my inspiration. And it was a little risky you know… Green cake could happen to look like taken from Ghost busters film. It could happen to look very, I don’t even know what word to use here, maybe ‘artificial’? So that was the reason why I decided not to use artificial food colouring. So… I just bought some spinaches (yes, spinaches) and used their juices (I squeezed the juices using slow speed juicer). So that’s there my Greenery colour is from and I like the natural result a lot! Then I made some Swiss meringue buttercream (you can find the recipe I used at SugarHero). It’s really a glorious thing for cake makers! And mixed the buttercream with my spinach colouring. Ta daaam! Here is the result – my lemon layer cake with Swiss meringue buttercream frosting:
By the way, I left the rough texture instead of smoothing the buttercream surface. I think that this texture is more closer to nature. Uff, that’s all for today, I feel really tired, ha ha. All that I can say – if I can do it, then anyone can! At least you can ask your confectioner to try this idea!
