I remember being like 12 or 13 years old preparing some garlands of greenery and flowers from our garden for the wedding of the neighbour. She was very creative girl and made all decorations herself with some help from me and my little sister. I remember thinking how amazingly pretty these garlands looked like. So simple but so pretty!
Then as time went by, I must admit I forgot about these good old decorations. When in my twenties I started to get deeper and deeper into events world, I should admit these garlands even looked a bit too simple compared with enormous in size and very beautiful floral arrangements full of exotic blooms and foreign palm leaves. I was astonished by all this prettiness and luxury and, honestly, it took me some time to come back to my senses. However, eventually I realised that all this opulence is not my thing at all, and that I do care the most about minimalism and sustainability.
And then (more precisely – at the beginning of June 2019) I was lucky enough to work with the best ever wedding planner Margot Watt from Petite Pearl Events. The wedding took place at spectacular Blackwater castle in Ireland and talented event florist Zuzana Hewer from Fig & Flower made some garlands of greenery from local plants (yes, the managers of the property let us use greenery and wild flowers of the surroundings of the castle!). Then Margot and I hanged some electric lights between them.
And… then that amazing lightning of eco-consciousness crossed my mind again (it does from time to time now, you know…)!
That’s it! As I would be back to the DIY wedding I helped to decorate as a teenager! I had that amazing feeling, actually, the best feeling in the world again! I mean, these garlands even nowadays can be really sustainable and used as super pretty decoration. And on top of that, they are very easy to make and budget – friendly. What else could we ask for, mm?
