It is not a secret at all that it’s a brilliant idea to choose seasonal flowers for your wedding. By doing this you can not only maximize your flower budget but also enjoy fresher blooms. Tulips and sweet-scented lilacs are among the best choices for spring. And it seems that these beauties look just perfect together!
There is the only question here: how to make these blooms last longer as we know both are quite short lasting. Here are some useful tips.
1. Cut the blooms in early morning when they are freshest. Think about that: if you cut them in the middle of hot day it is obvious that they will wilt faster.
2. When cutting use sharp scissors or knife. Those rugged edges will kill those beautiful blooms much faster.
3. If you are going to buy, not to cut tulips from your or your grandmother’s flower garden, chose those that are unopened and just showing some colour.
4. When you’ll cut the blooms immediately put their stems in lukewarm water with special flower food for cut flowers. I have read that for lilacs and tulips you can also use sweet water (one spoon sugar per litter of water). I thought that this folk tip is worth trying? But I made a little research here. According Dr. Leonard Perry from University of Vermont ‘although many people believe that adding sugar, a penny, or even a bit of bleach to the water will help extend the life of the flowers, none of these folk remedies are as effective as commercial cut flower food.’ But it’s up to you what way to choose.
5. Once your bouquet is the right size wrap some floral wrap around the stems (where you going to handle it). It will hold the moisture that is in stems. You can buy this tape in your local floral store.
By the way, if you are afraid to make your wedding bouquet by yourself there always are professional florists who will share some useful advices and arrange beautiful composition of spring lilacs and tulips as well.
P.S. I love everything about this bride style and photo shoot idea, not only the bouquet. The vintage dress and wooden furniture, the hairstyle and, of course, the army of flowering trees. Even the contrast between lush greenery of grass and plain soil looks somehow charming, isn’t it?
