Want a hand dyed organic ribbon? Use some blueberries from your freezer!

At least I do so… Here what I get: light blue color ribbon with some darker areas… Yes, you are right – fabric looks like watercolor painted.

Hand dyed satin ribbon, organic. Used some blueberries.

It all started when yesterday I was eating some cereals with frozen blueberries for breakfast and remembered reading about ice dyeing technique here. It’s a really cool way to dye fabric! So I had to try my chances! There were no fabric dye at home so I put some ice on 100% cotton satin fabric and instead of dyes sprinkled some still frozen blueberries. As the ice and berries were melting the juice from the latter dyed my satin! Then I washed fabric with cold water. Later when it dried I ripped the fabric and rolled my ribbons on wooden spools. Ta daam! I always wandered is it really possible to use plants as organic dye for ribbons like that. Some colors like, for example, blue, seemed impossible to make without chemical dyes for me. However… I just proved to myself that everything is possible!! Huh, mother nature strikes again..

Can’t wait for fresh blueberries season! Yummy…
